Dr Laxman's Case Presentation — Recurrent Rectal Prolapse

During his session, Dr Salve discussed:

  • Patient had rectal prolapse since childhood. At age 22, his first surgery was done by Transanal Sacrosuture Rectopexy, which failed in a month's time and he presented with rectal prolapse again
  • Instead of going for transabdominal approach, Dr Laxman decided to repair it by minimally invasive route only
  • He performed corrective surgery by transanal route and fixed the prolapse by Anterior STARR and Posterior Redo Sacrosuture Rectopexy
  • Patient is doing well after this redo surgery
  • This is a new technique for managing the prolapsed rectum through the transanal route, in order to avoid serious complications of trans-abdominal surgery
